Delivering unconscious bias training and e-learning to recruitment managers

This NHS Trust in London was eager to raise awareness of equality, diversity and inclusion issues, and the effects of unconscious bias on talent attraction and retention.

Our e-learning course, designed with input from the Trust, introduced delegates to unconscious bias and the legal requirements around job profiles and interviewing.

Learners are given a thorough grounding in the Equality Act 2010 and the Public Sector Equality Duty: delivered through quizzes, visuals and a final assessment. Also included are tailored scenarios around harassment, discrimination and reasonable adjustments.

Together these encourage delegates to consider real-world examples of their learning, and see how unwanted behaviour might impact on their day-to-day roles.

As well as the e-learning, we regularly run in-person workshops at the Trust.

The training again focuses on the implications bias can have for hiring new talent and managing performance. The course is accompanied by a custom-made resource pack, emailed out to delegates in advance. It provides a detailed introduction to the concepts, science and psychology behind unconscious bias, and to key current legislation.

95% of delegates have said they were ‘extremely satisfied’ with the training.

With a dedicated support contact at EW Group, delegate satisfaction has been extremely high, with on average 95% of delegates saying they were ‘extremely satisfied’ with content and delivery.

"The EW Group provided a first class service to the trust. Feedback from course participants for their delivery of unconscious bias training to trust managers was overwhelmingly positive. In fact, I’ve never seen such positive feedback for an equality and diversity-related course before." Swarnjit Singh, Board Secretary at Hounslow and Richmond Community Healthcare NHS Trust
