How does your organisation manage menopause at work?

It may be inevitable for all women, but menopause is generally seen as a personal matter rather than an issue for HR. Yet, women going through menopause are the fastest-growing workforce demographic, which means that nearly 8 out of 10 menopausal women are in work. Businesses need to take positive steps to support women at this time in their lives to mitigate potential low morale and loss of talent. Our menopause awareness training will increase understanding within your organisation, help to reduce absenteeism and staff turnover, as well as the risk of employee relations issues.

Supporting Women

10% of women actually leave their job because of their menopause symptoms

Awareness training sessions for 'all staff' groups and managers

Menopause is one of the last workplace and social taboos, negatively affecting an estimated 45% of women. This may translate to reduced productivity, women being less engaged in their employment, and, in some cases, leaving their jobs. Our training sessions will help you to start the conversation and are adaptable for ‘all staff’ awareness sessions as well as more in-depth manager training. All sessions can be delivered virtually or in person, and will cover these key areas:

  1. Introduction to menopause and its impact in the workplace
  2. Health and well-being during menopause
  3. Communication and support
  4. Menopause-accommodating policies and workplace adjustments
  5. Learning from case studies and common questions

At the end of this session, participants will be able to:

  • Understand menopause and its impact on their colleagues
  • Foster inclusivity for all colleagues experiencing menopause
  • Recognise the legal framework and responsibilities related to menopause support in the workplace
  • Implement practical strategies to promote health and well-being for colleagues experiencing menopause
  • Communicate effectively about menopause and provide resources for all colleagues
  • Create menopause-accommodating policies and workplace adjustments
  • Develop an action plan for supporting your colleagues through menopause

Menopause Awareness FAQs

Why is menopause awareness important?

Women going through menopause are the fastest growing workforce demographic, so it should be treated as a workplace issue. Menopause can cause difficult symptoms, from hot flushes to anxiety, difficulty sleeping, and memory problems. Transparency, clarity and awareness can alleviate some of the stigma and prejudice that exists and create an office culture that helps women succeed. This reduces stress and improves mental health, which, in turn, will benefit your organisation culturally and financially, saving on recruitment and training costs.

What is a menopause workplace policy?

A menopause workplace policy is a set of office guidelines laying out an organisation’s approach to members of staff experiencing menopausal symptoms. This includes the help and support those employees can expect, rights and responsibilities of workers and employers, and guidance regarding working while going through menopause. While a menopause policy is not required by law, it can raise awareness, make staff feel more comfortable and cared for, and provide a platform for discussion and training.

What is a menopause-friendly employer?

A menopause-friendly employer is a business that proves it cares about the wellbeing of its employees who are going through menopause. This requires a clear understanding of how menopause can impact work, the responsibility of organisations to mitigate the issues that can occur, and a commitment to enhancing diversity and inclusion in the office. An employer that is menopause-friendly will make advocating for and supporting its staff a priority during a difficult time in their lives.
