Training all staff in equality, diversity and unconscious bias awareness
EW Group worked with the London Borough of Havering over the course of seven years to provide practical, inclusive approaches for staff at all levels to address unconscious bias and workplace discrimination. This included a three-year programme of half-day training workshops in:
We designed each of these courses in close collaboration with Havering to reflect their internal priorities. We created case studies and factored in statistics that reflect the local population and community to engage learners in a range of issues. We used a range of written scenarios to provoke discussion about discrimination and bias both within and outside of the workplace.
Facilitated discussions in small groups were key to the programme’s success.
Our trainers encouraged these groups to speak freely and openly, in a safe and judgement-free space. This meant learners were able to fully explore the implications of unconscious bias and the importance of inclusive working practice.
“Flexible and accommodating… approachable, professional and innovative.”
In the final year of the programme, we worked with Havering staff to revise the course material and to focus on managerial development. This ensured the Borough’s people managers had the skills to manage equality and diversity effectively through practical approaches, strategies and action plans.
“EW Group are flexible and accommodating to the needs of clients. Their staff and trainers are approachable and professional, and we consistently receive positive feedback from delegates on their subject matter expertise and innovative approach.”
